Disconnect to Reconnect;

Lately I've been feeling like I'm extremely tied down to TV shows and my computer. When I am bored I resort to watching a show on Netflix or getting on Pinterest or Facebook. This has completely overtaken my life.  I often find myself logging onto a computer in the library and automatically typing facebook.com into the internet browser without even thinking.

During this last summer I watch nine seasons, I repeat NINE SEASONS of One Tree Hill... in only ONE month. When I think about that month it makes me sick! I cannot believe that I wasted so much of my time doing something that was so unimportant and unproductive.

So in my efforts to to be my best self, my best friend Hillery and I have decided to delete our Netflix accounts. I can't even explain to you how good it feels to free myself of something that's been weighing me down for so long.

 I decided to do this when I found myself  watching a TV show that I was completely not attached to, didn't love and was hardly paying attention when it was on. WHY was I doing that? There are so many other things that we can do with our time that are not only more productive, but much more beneficial to our overall well-being.

Here's a few ideas:

  • Taking a walk around the block--Especially good when you're having a bad day and need some alone-time.
  • Studying-- Getting things done ahead of time really makes a difference in the quality of your work and your stress level. Procrastination is only the art of keeping up with yesterday. It's disease that I'm unfortunately sick with. (I hope it's not terminal.)
  • Spending time with PEOPLE-- Talking with friends, family and peers face-to-face is so much better than talking them via social networks/email.
  • Take Up a Hobby-- who knew I would like crocheting, crafting and environmental work! Branch out.
  • Enjoy Nature-- when you stop and really think about how beautiful our world is you begin to appreciate the little things like leaves changing colors or grass turning green.
  • TRAVEL--Traveling is so exciting! Last summer I decided to book a weekend trip spur of the moment to visit my family in Washington. I flew by myself and got to spend time with my family and see a completely different culture. It was so incredible and fascinating. This year I hope to visit Pennsylvania.
  • Read-- I feel incredibly sad when people tell me that they don't like to read. I could read all day and put myself in someone else's shoes and explore a completely different world.

Give Me Sunshine;

Today's a great day to feel alive.

I am starting this blog to record all of the changes that I am going to make to start living life freely and happily. I want this blog to be where I record my most happy moments with friends, family and any event that represents positivity.

I'm starting today by being so thankful for the sunshine. It's March 26, 2013; even though that would normally mean Springtime just about everywhere else, I live in Logan, Utah so it's still a bit chilly. However today I watched the sun rise over the mountains pouring into the valley. So today I am thankful for the rays of sun that hit my face and danced to fingertips. As I sat there waiting for the bus to come take me home, I decided to walk instead.

Livin' For the Sweet Sunshine.
